You can measure without a tape measure using the "Measure" app: iPhone Tips

I don't have a tape measure when I want to know the size of personal items and small items, but I want to measure it. In such a case, use the "Measurement" app. The trick is to point your iPhone at the plane of what you want to measure and align the start and end points of the measurement. There will be some error, but it will help you to get a rough idea of the rough size of small items and lower shelves that you can bring your iPhone closer to. This time, we will introduce how to measure the length manually and the automatic recognition function of the rectangle.

Open the "Measurement" app

First, let's open the "Measurement" app. Enter "Measure" in the widget search window to display the app. You can also quickly find it by searching in the "App Library" search window on the last screen of the home screen scrolled to the left.

Measure manually

When you copy the object you want to measure on the screen, a dot will appear, so move the iPhone to the place you want to start from and align it. If you tap the "+" below in that state, the start point will be set, so if you press the "+" after aligning the dot with the end point, the length will be displayed. When I actually measured it, it was 60 cm. You can see the approximate length, although there are some errors. Make sure that the start point and the end point do not shift.

The arrow mark on the upper left can return to the previous operation. You can erase the measured length with the trash can button on the upper right.

Copy and paste the length measured in the memo

If you want to make a note of the displayed length, copy the length. Tap "~ cm", then tap "Copy". When you open the "Memo" app and paste it, "Paste from" Measurement "to" Memo "" appears, and copy and paste is complete.

Automatically recognizes rectangles

If you want to measure a square object, you can use the automatic recognition function. When the iPhone recognizes the size, a dotted line will be displayed around it, so tap "+" to display the size immediately.

Change the measurement unit

If you want to change the measurement unit, you can do it from "Measure" in the "Settings" app. The measurement unit can be changed to "Imperial".

If the starting point shifts, it is not recognized well, so press the trash can button and measure again. The point is to properly match the starting point by taking a picture of the entire object or looking away. It is suitable for measuring straight objects, and can be measured even on low shelves and desks. It is difficult to measure tall objects and large objects that cannot be brought close to the iPhone, and small objects such as small items and cases can be measured without much error.
