From the new Galaxy Z Fold to smartwatches, all the new products Samsung has announced

Samsung is serious about selling foldable smartphones.

Those who are following Samsung's movements would have expected a new release of the company's long-established "Galaxy Note" series. However, no new Note was announced at the second new product announcement event "Galaxy Unpacked" this year. Instead, Samsung has announced two new models of folding smartphones. "Galaxy Z Fold 3" and "Galaxy Z Flip 3".

The new smartwatch models "Galaxy Watch 4" and "Galaxy Watch 4 Classic" were also featured in this virtual event. These two models are the first wearable devices equipped with the OS "Wear OS 3" that Google is co-developing with Samsung and Fitbit.

And when it comes to Samsung's events, new wireless earphones are indispensable. The company has released new earphones at regular intervals from the 2019 Galaxy Buds, followed by the Galaxy Buds +, Galaxy Buds Live, and Galaxy Buds Pro. This time it's "Galaxy Buds 2". The naming doesn't seem to make sense, but the new product is at least great.

Let's take a closer look at these new products below. All products are currently accepting reservations and are scheduled to go on sale in the US on August 27th.

"Galaxy Z Fold 3" and "Galaxy Z Flip 3"

Samsung currently has two types of folding smartphones on the market. The "Galaxy Z Fold" opens like a book and the "Galaxy Z Flip" opens like a compact.

Of these, Fold is a product for users who want to keep a small tablet device in their pocket. When opened from the folded state, a large 7.6-inch screen appears. When closed, it can be used like a normal smartphone thanks to the large touch screen on the front.

Flip, on the other hand, addresses people who are dissatisfied with the recent increase in smartphone size. It's a small and elegant product.

These two models (each renewed for the third time), which were unveiled at the event on August 11th (US time), are not much different from the previous model. However, there is a meaningful evolution, and the reliability as a device for everyday use is increasing. For example, Fold 3 and Flip 3 are finally waterproof (IPX8). It is a level that does not interfere with operation even if dropped in the bath.

In addition, a new protective film has been adopted for the two main displays, which is 80% more durable and scratch resistant than the previous model. The back and front glass is the latest "Gorilla Glass Victus", which is 50% more durable than the "Gorilla Glass 6" used in older models.
