First of all, are there any "points that are unique to ASOBOiSM" in the production process that you are thinking about? ASOBOiSM: I'm good at borrowing the voices of various people in my brain. ... I feel like what I'm saying (laughs). It's a feeling of being possessed by various people regardless of genre. I often do in my head to grasp the characteristics of others in songs and express (sample) them in my own way.
――Do you mean to imitate singing? ASOBOiSM: It's a little different from imitating ... For example, when I made a demo of a song (unreleased) that says "I'll take my mood myself", I imagined Snoop Dogg's rap flow (at the moment). I did. If you listen to it, it doesn't look like snoop at all, and I don't know, but in fact, it's like rhyme, singing, and snoop. ASOBOiSM: I usually write a lot of lyrics in the notepad of my smartphone. It's like writing down your emotions. (Looking at the screen) Well, the latest one is ... the lyrics of the tentative title "I'll take money" (laughs). The guy I wrote based on what I was talking to a girl friend the other day. At the scene where there are many men, I was told that I was barely sexually harassed, and I felt like I had no place to laugh and respond. Of course, I felt that the place had to go smoothly, so I went through with a smile without saying anything. At a later date, he talked about it with his friends, saying, "It's like a cabaret club for entertaining one person," and "I really want to get some money!" But, isn't this something that every woman is experiencing? Especially in the music industry, there are many men, so when I talk about something really boring that I'm seen as a sexual object, I think "I'm going to take money from you?" The memo says, "A woman who can't deal with it is boring / this line is blurry." When making lyrics, I will work on arranging them based on these things.
――For example, if you say "I'll take money", how do you arrange it? ASOBOiSM: If it's this song, it feels a bit prideful and I think it would be nice to have an aggressive song. Also, Hook, for example, let's loop the phrase "give me money" (laughs). I wonder if I'll be looking for a beat that suits Splice and other ideas that are coming up with that kind of feeling. Or find a good phrase while playing the guitar. That's how you make a demo track, and the track arrangements from there onwards are left to the trusted professionals.
――Did you already have a solid image of the music video when you wrote the song? ASOBOiSM: When I wrote the song, I had the image that I wanted a strong color and picture like Billie Eilish's "Bad Guy". But usually, I don't think it's solidified to that extent. There is a vague color direction, though. That's about the image, and after all, there are many people who want to "work with this kind of person" or "this time this kind of person seems to fit".
――The other thing that makes me wonder is why ASOBOiSM's songs are so organized? That's the point. Even if there are so many songs, the album "OOTD" is also neatly organized by being stripped off all over. ASOBOiSM: But that work wasn't made from the beginning with the stance of making an album. It's basically a single, and it's a collection of albums. Therefore, it may be that the landing points that I see with the creators are the same. Before Corona, we had a training camp together. We all went to Okinawa. Everyone is too good! I really respect you. It's natural, but I want to be involved with creators as a "person" as much as possible. It can't be helped a little now (because it's Korona-ka), but it's unpleasant to complete it only on the data. It's important to love that person and see each other's vibes. ――What kind of music does ASOBOiSM usually listen to? ASOBOiSM: I'm not that familiar and enthusiastic.
