"Portable Wi-Fi" Review
25/03/2022
The progress of the web platform in recent years has been remarkable, and most of the work we do on a daily basis has come to be completed almost entirely on the web. If you want to read and write emails, you can open "Gmail", and if you want to use office applications, there are "Microsoft 365" and "Google Docs, Spreads, and Slides." Web browsers are good enough for chatting and video conferencing, and drawing and games are now mostly done with Web applications. In other words, "Google Chrome" is almost enough.
However, when you open web applications like Gmail or Microsoft 365 in Chrome tabs, the bar overflows and the tabs become saw-toothed, making switching between tabs cumbersome. There is also the danger of closing the window entirely. And above all, you want one app to be one window. Windows and Mac users are accustomed to such a world.
Therefore, "Chrome OS" had a mechanism called "Chrome application". This made it possible to use a web page in an independent window as if it were an application, and it was compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux "Google Chrome".
The memo app "Keep" that comes with "Chrome OS". The "Chrome app" that allows web applications to run in a window is being migrated to PWAHowever, this mechanism has been decided to be abolished and is being scaled down in stages.
However, the concept of "web applications that act like desktop apps" is not dead. Instead, a mechanism called “progressive web application (PWA)” has been standardized, involving “Firefox” and the smartphone environment, and this will play a leading role in the future. It can be said that PWA reconfigures the closed mechanism of "Chrome OS" and "Google Chrome" with modern web standard technology.
It seems that there are many people who have never heard the word PWA, but there are many web services that have already been converted to PWA. For example, after using "outlook.com" in "Google Chrome" for a while, an install button with a circled "+" will appear at the right end of the address bar. Clicking this will install "outlook.com" on "Chrome OS" and you can use it like an app with an independent window. If you want to add Spotify as a PWA, just visit open.spotify.com.
Install "Keep" as a PWAYou can use the web application as it is in "Google Chrome", but if it supports PWA, please install it and use it. It should be more convenient than just bookmarking.
